Role of the ITG

Leadership and Coordination

Central Role of the ITG is based on a Mandate of the Mongolian Nation

The Mongolian Government has placed a contract for 10 years with the ITG - and with the ITG only - concerning the cooperation in the Gobi B National Park. The current contract with the Ministery of Nature Environment and Green Development covers the years from 2011 - 2020 (fact sheet).

Thus the ITG maintains a close cooperation with the director and th administration of the National Park, but also with the farmers, ranchers and cooperatives in the neighborhood. Also included is the collaboration with the administrations of the local Soums and Baghs as well with the regional Aimags. Furthermore collaboration covers also the central government, president Tsachiagiin Elbegdorj and his staff and the ministry of Nature Environment and Green Development of Mongolia.

Articles of the ITG define Cooperation

ITG has included into their articles the following issues concerning this collaboration (Art 2.2).
  • The Takhi-project is sensibly embedded into the overall development of the region
  • it provides help for the local people on socio-economical issues
  • it improves the knowlegde about the Przewalski's Horse within the Mongolian Population
  • it ensures the availability of zoo-bred animals for the transport to Central Asia
Complementary to this ITG develops a periodically revised long-term strategy.

Cooperation and Leadership

ITG assumes leadership and coordination concerning the cooperation with all partners in order to ensure the implementation of the long-term goals. It also guarantees a professional and efficient use of the money contributed to the project.

Complementary Role of the ITG

The Mongolian government has defined its activities in "the Management Plan of Great Gobi B strictly protected Area and Alagkhairkhan Nature Reserve (2011-2015)"  and has announced financial the means. The ITG played a significant role at the formulation of the Management Plan.

The ITG assumes that the Mongolian government basically works according to the schedule. It will not be the duty of the ITG to compensate for those governmental activities but to complement them according ot the Management Plan and the strategy of the ITG.
